The "small MUJI" miniature art exhibition is now open at MUJI Windsor.
Presented by MUJI and curated by renowned Japanese miniature photographer and skeuomorphist Tatsuya Tanaka, this exhibition transforms everyday MUJI items into playful, storytelling miniature works of art through ingenious creativity and meticulous technique, allowing viewers to explore the details and beauty of life through a unique perspective.
The "small MUJI" exhibition has previously toured numerous locations, including Helsinki, Ginza, Osaka, Singapore, Beijing, and New York, earning widespread acclaim. Hong Kong marks the final stop on the tour, incorporating new creations and local elements. This is the first time during the tour that the miniature works will be presented as a large-scale installation, offering Hong Kong residents and tourists alike an experience that is both visually pleasing and richly culturally rich. The exhibition is suitable for all ages, and those interested in art, design, and exploring the aesthetics of life can discover the beauty and wonders of life here.
Mr. Tatsuya Tanaka expressed his delight at this collaboration with MUJI:
"If you look closely at these miniature artworks, you can even find myself in miniature versions of them in various settings."
MUJI has always been committed to integrating minimalist design into everyday life, creating products that are both practical and insightful through continuous innovation and refinement. This exhibition not only embodies the MUJI brand spirit but also offers an artistic opportunity to re-examine and re-experience the details of life.
In addition to showcasing 16 miniature artworks, the exhibition also features two new installations created specifically for Hong Kong. The first, "Drawer-like Houses," features prominent street signs, air conditioners and iron railings mounted on the undulating facades of buildings, and double-decker buses and trams crisscrossing the city. Through MUJI products, this work vividly depicts Hong Kong's unique, diverse, and vibrant streetscapes. Imagine that each drawer is like a building, and that the products, resembling air conditioners, hold the details of each person's life. After viewing this work, you might find yourself rediscovering Hong Kong's streets.
They resemble rows of drawers, each filled with stories, delicate and vibrant.
The second series of works, "A Thousand Miles Across," recreates the view from Victoria Peak. By reducing the scale of the skyscrapers to create a contrast with the figures on the hill, it creates a sense of distance. As you admire the artwork, you'll find it even more fascinating to imagine which district of the city each MUJI product represents. From another angle, the view transforms into a view of Hong Kong Island across Victoria Harbour; this shifting perspective is part of the artwork's appeal.
